Global Partnership for the Prevention
of Armed Conflict
July 19-21, 2005
This historic conference was the first
held at the UN to facilitate a growing interaction between
civil society organizations or CSOs.
The conference brought together CSOs from
across the globe who are working for freedom, gender equality,
prevention of armed conflict which includes small arms
and light weapons, those interested in developing early
warning signals for the prevention of conflict altogether.
This conference was sponsored by member
states who made it possible for the conference to be held
in the UN conference rooms and the General Assembly Hall--a
benefit because of the turnout of CSOs. The number of
CSOs in the world is so great as to necessitate a conference
room with seats equivalent to those needed when all nations
gather together in the General Assembly Hall which is
a testament to all the organizations out there working
for peace.
