Nuclear weapons have only been used twice during warfare, but they have proven to be the deadliest weapons in the world. The immediate and long-term damage nuclear weapons cause can result in millions of casualties. Although multiple treaties and agreements have been put forth to rid the world of nuclear weapons, the battle for disarmament continues across the globe. Because of the dangers nuclear weapons pose, international organizations and NGOs are actively trying to create an environment in which nuclear weapons are no longer necessary.
